Don't forget data can be stored on portable electronic devices, such as your Smartphone, as well as backup tapes, CDs, DVDS, and X-ray film (a catch-all category labeled "other"). If lost or stolen you can be held liable for breach of security provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Bottom Line: Do ensure you have an encrypted system set up on all devices if accessing your EHR or patient data online! Don't assume a password access only will suffice! Get IT assistance!
